You will observe that provision is made on a

reclamation which has been recently undertaken for a site for a

Police Station, the Police are at present housed in buildings

rented for the purpose, and I propose that the Sham Shui Po

Market should, when possible, be removed from its present

congested site to one of the blocks on the yellow area. If this

be approved, I anticipate that it will facilitate negotiations

with the various lessees for the exchanges required.

There are at the present time a number of

people who desire to proceed with the re-crection of their houses

on their old sites and I have declined to sanction this. This

may give rise to claims for loss of rent and it is therefore im-

-portant that the scheme should be proceeded with at an early

date so that I may have sites to offer them on which they may

build. If they refuse an exchange, the only alternative course

is to compensate them as it would be unwise to perpetuate the

existing condition of affairs in a district which shows marked

signs of development.
